Meet Tethered ARI

Angel (she/her) @angeljd.art

Angelica Dimal is a Filipino visual artist based in Meanjin (Brisbane). Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) from QUT, Angelica utilizes her understanding ofperceptual and affectual theory to analyse the psychological aspects ofphenomenology visually; in relation to the human condition. Whilst investigating thefluid and freeform properties that traditional materials can inhabit, she combines thepsychological modes of visual perception to construct abstract yet familiar forms andsubjects. By reducing familiar forms into interpretive and cognitive ones, Angelicacan translate the ambiguity of how emotions can manifest. In turn, she representshow her mind conceptualises interpersonal themes and experiences.

Arlo Tarry (they/them) @arlotarry

Arlo Tarry is a Meanjin/Brisbane-based artist whose paintings, found-object assemblages, and needlework transform internal conflict into visual narratives of vulnerability, memory, and resilience, shaped by their experience as a nonbinary, Autistic person.

Gretel Chapman (she/her) @gretelchapman.art

Through the lens of feminist theory in a contemporary Western context, Gretel Chapman’s work is an investigation into psychological effects of the male gaze; particularly the concept of self-objectification and its impacts. Involving the process of repurposing old textiles - including family heirlooms or second-hand fabrics, she explores shared narratives of womanhood in her practice. With materials like paint and latex she reimagines the female body in a collage-like process of her own painted image, as well as constructing abstract sculptural forms in an attempt to communicate the internal turmoil of unlearning self-objectification.

Milan (they/she) @freakinfreakart

Milan is an emerging multimedia artist based in Meanjin whose work navigates pressing social and cultural issues, including the rise of new wave misogyny and the enduring impact of patriarchy. Through self-portraiture and object-based art, they foster dialogue and build solidarity with women and the LGBTQIA+ community in the fight against oppression. Their practice also delves into themes of love and compassion, often centered on the subject of their partner or childhood memories. Deeply influenced by nostalgia and early digital media, Milan draws on the aesthetics and emotional textures of these virtual worlds to explore memory, identity, and the ways digital spaces have shaped intimate experiences and self-understanding.

Summers (she/her) @summers.ses

Summers is a Sunshine Coast-based artist who recently graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) from the Queensland University of Technology. Her practice depicts aspects of daily life informed by gratitude developed through reflective practice. She hopes to prompt viewers to feel gratitude for the multitude of special but mundane moments in life. The artist connects with her audience using an interdisciplinary practice of painting, poetry, photography, interactive works and digital media. Summers utilises an intersectional feminist lens and conceptual art to contextualise her practice. She hopes to interact with her audience through shared moments mediated by art.
